BACD has a go at Which?
April 26th, 2008 | by arts |Consumer watchdog are getting a ear full from Cosmetic surgery clinics, after they have been accused of breaking industry guidelines by advisitising using time sensitive special offers.
The magazine Which? made the claim specifically mentioining 8 clinics, including a cosmetic dentistry company. The cases in question included breast enlargement, laser hair removal and a comperition to win cosmetic smile treatments.
Independent helathcare advisory (IHAS) prohibit time sensitive offers on cosmetic surgery. The clinic listed were The Harley Medical Group, Transform, The Hospital Group, James Hull, The Lifestyle Clinic, SurgiCare The Laser Treatment Clinic, and Courthouse clinics.
However DR Curran, president of the BACD (British association of Cosmetic doctors), had issues with Which? findings, he believes they were miss leading. "I was disappointed with the examples they used to back up their claims," DR Curran said. "Laser hair removal is hardly life-changing. It's pathetic. This sort of research wouldn't stand up to medical scrutiny." He went on to say: "It's not unreal for commercial organisations to make attractive offers to keep the business going. If Which? has concerns, instead of going to IHAS, which is not an official regulating body, it should go to the General Medical Council."
